First I should establish that I'm not much of a reader and I've never read a self-help book before. So it's really saying something that I finished this book in two days. If you don't train yourself to choose constructive assertiveness over destructive aggression, you'll sabotage your reputation, your relationships, your career, your chance at inner peace.It's been obvious to me that I needed to change, but I had no idea if such change was possible or if I was just "wired this way." This book has convinced me that the journey is indeed possible. Is the book a quick fix? Very helpful. I use it in my therapy practice all the time, with excellent results. But can be done alone.
Very easy to understand, as many psychologists can make feelings very complicated when discussing. He is clear, but I tired of all the couples examples evev though I am married...could have had more family dynamics or women anger issues.

Wow-Very pleased I purchased this book. Not only is it informative but gives examples of what to do in certain situations and explains the basis by which some emotions evolve. Things we should have been taught, or learned at an early age but just did not exist in the world we lived in are explained within these pages. I would suggest this book even if you don't feel you have an anger issue....I discovered that even feeling frustrated frequently or irritated by little things constantly, are forms of anger better handled in a different manner or perception. Wonderful book by a really good author.

It was very helpful in understanding why we feel anger and how it can be responded to in both good and bad ways. Michael Connelly’s Dark Sacred Night picks up where his two previous novels, The Late Show and Two Kinds of Truth, left off. Renée Ballard continues to work the late shift for Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division. Harry Bosch continues to work cold cases for the San Fernando Police Department.They meet by happenstance when Ballard finds Bosch snooping through Hollywood’s case files in search of information about the murder of Daisy Clayton, whose mother, Elizabeth, Bosch rescued at the end of Two Kinds of Truth. They strike a bargain and investigate the case together. Along the way, Ballard and Bosch investigate other cases on the side, but it’s the Daisy Clayton murder that drives the plot forward.As per usual with Connelly’s novels, this one is a page-turner. I started reading it after dinner and finished it before I went to bed. It held my interest throughout. Even the side plots kept my interest. What I love about Connelly’s novels is the way he moves the plot forward by means of good detective work, rather than an investigator’s flashes of insight. You see Ballard and Bosch working the evidence, piecing the story together bit by bit. This approach keeps you hooked, because you want to follow the evidence wherever it leads.Additionally, I love the fact that unlike other serial novelists that I love to read—I’m looking at you, Lee Child and Craig Johnson—Michael Connelly is smart enough to realize that Bosch is getting older and simply can’t sustain the pace, the intensity, or the beatings he endured (or gave out) in previous novels. With this novel, Connelly seems to be moving his focus toward Ballard and transitioning Bosch into a lesser role. That’s great, as far as I’m concerned, both because Ballard is an intriguing character and because I still enjoy Bosch.I’m not giving Dark Sacred Night a five-star review, however. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend reading it, but it’s not at the top of Connelly heap. I have two reasons for this: First, the side cases. One of the side cases is designed solely to introduce a character. Ballard’s side cases (an accidental death, an art theft, and a gruesome murder) are solved too perfunctorily. Bosch’s main side case is more interesting, but it’s difficult to tell whether how it ends is designed to set up a transition in Bosch’s life or to introduce a problem for a future novel. Second, a moment of intimacy between Bosch and another character seems way out of character for him. You’ll know what I mean when you read the novel.Despite this, I’m happy with Dark Sacred Night, and I look forward to whatever Connelly cooks up next year. My guess is that Renée Ballard will play the leading role and Harry Bosch a supporting one. And that’s okay with me. They’re both great characters.
Over the years, I have derived a great deal of enjoyment from Michael Connolly’s novels, and I always look forward to the arrival of a new one. I have read most of them more than once. When you reread a book, knowing the plot before you start, it is generally because you appreciate the writer’s style as much as his stories.It is sad to have to report that this latest book is a disappointment. It reads very much like one of those continuation books, written by ghost writers, that come out after an author has died. The writing is flat and tedious, the story not particularly gripping, and the characters shallow. Either Connolly has lent his famous name to someone else’s inferior product, or he has completely lost interest in the terrific world that he created, and is just producing stories mechanically, to meet his contractual obligations. Such a shame.

The book is great because it covers many of the civil and criminal areas that private investigators work in today, as well as providing insight into conducting investigations, practice tests and tips to do well on the exam.
Great study guide. Really good practice questions after each study topic.
Helpful, but not enough information to help you pass the private investigator exam. The DVD was not very helpful either.
I can tell you out a doubt this is a great book to use to prepare for the Private Investigator Exams. The book is structured very well with test taking strategies to start with to prepare and get your mind set straight for studying for the test. The writers break the study guide out so it is easier to prepare for the exam. They have four sections and within the section they prepare you with study guide information and then practice questions. But it doesn't stop there they then explain the answers in depth to again hammer home this material. In my eyes this is a VERY WELL written and structured study guide and practice test questions. I went though this book twice and am very comfortable in my preparation for the upcoming exam!I highly recommend this handbook to anyone that is preparing for the Private Investigator Exam. What I like most about the Test Prep Book Private Investigator Handbook is how updated the questions are. Knowing how difficult the questions are in the book allows me to feel more confident when it comes time to take the exam. What I like most about this handbook is how it provides test questions and explanations as to why which answer was best and why the other choices in the question were wrong.
The Study guide was very informative . I especially liked the case & testimony along with the evidence collection. It breaks down several different types of reports in great detail. It also has several practice questions and lengthy explanations which I found helpful .
I felt that this is worth the price. Although the book is very data intensive, is easy to read and will properly prepare the reader for a career in Private Investigation. This book will help anyone who purchases it.

About the Author
Matthew Fox is the popular and controversial theologian and author of more than 25 books that expose the corruption and patriarchal hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church and invite us to return to a more mystical experience of Christianity. He is founder and director of the Institute of Culture and Creation Spirituality in Oakland, CA. This book is a wonderfully informing read and practical application of a 12th Century woman's life wisdom for all readers today.I was thrilled to find an author who was willing to apply the wisdom of our historical church leaders for everyday reading.Practical application of the wisdom from our Christian heritage was constantly on my mind as I completed course workfor a degree in a Masters Program in Christian Spirituality. How to communicate the truths I was finding to the non scholarwas a concern for me throughout as I wanted to share the valuable "lessons learned" with the church at large.This book does an excellent job in applying Hildegard's insights for both the scholar and interested lay person wanting to learnmore about Spirituality and it's historical role in religion AND it's practical application for today!
I really liked this book, but my main "critique" would be that I would prefer it to have been a just bit heavier on the historical side. Fox compared Hildegard to more contemporary figures (mostly 20th century). In doing this the chapters were a little light on Hildegard (and her writings) and a little heavy on the comparison figures (such as Mary Oliver and Howard Thurman). However, this information made the book interesting in its own right. Overall I appreciated the way Fox attempted to present Hildegard as being relevant to a modern audience. Of course he wrote from a modern perspective- every modern researcher/reader does this on some level - it is just a matter of degree. Again I really enjoyed this book but not for the reasons I initially thought I would! If your looking for an in-depth historical study of Hildegard this is not the book for you- but if your interested in reading her teachings in the context of modern and social issues than you would greatly benefit from reading this work!
Odd book. Fox has a rambling style of writing and pours out his thoughts about Hildegard while providing almost no information about Hildegard. Left me confused.
OK, she was a German nun. She was also an amazingly creative person and a feminist way ahead of her time. Sometimes while reading this I was amazed that the Roman Catholic Church not only tolerated her writings, but named her a Doctor of the Church. She apparently inherited a vast treasury of Celtic spirituality and if one is drawn to that in their own spiritual quest, I would say that this book is a precious resource.
I love Matthew Fox's writing, but this seemed to be a bit of a rehash of his other works which for me was disappointing because I really wanted to know about Hildegard so I ordered another book about her which is giving me more of what I was looking for, but having said that, I think I am going to have to read her works by her, not someone's interpretation of her words.

Matthew Fox discusses, with an incredible skill, the relevance of her thinking and outlook on the world - to today's current world situation; with fascinating comparisons with Mary Oliver's mystical poetry, Albert Einstein's quantum, global view, and Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes' "Wild Woman" wisdom and creativity . . . an extraordinary expressive tribute to Hildegard.
It would be difficult to study Hildegard of Bingen on one's own. She lived in the 12th century, and though she left a host of writings, paintings, music, just cataloguing them would be a daunting task. Matthew Fox has spent decades doing just that, and given us a very readable overview of a remarkable woman. He sees her as a voice that speaks well to our time, and finds interesting parallels between her writings and that of more modern thinkers. It's an eclectic crowd including Albert Einstein and Howard Thurman, two disparate men with surprisingly similar views. She is a mystic, a poet, a composer, a god-drunk warrior who challenged the church of her day with passion and no fear at all. Her insights into spirituality precedes St. Francis and Meister Eckhart, making one wonder why she did not remain better known down through the centuries. The answer to that may simply be she was a woman. Who would expect wisdom from a female? Fox has given her a new audience and we are the richer for it. Perhaps we will have more receptive minds than history has given her. I have only one caution: when anyone finds so many similarities between an ancient and his or her own philosophy, and that ancient is not always available to speak for him or her self on the matter, we must make allowances for the preconceived notions of the reporter. I personally like Fox and have gained much from his analysis of Meister Eckhart. But I wonder if he and Hildegard really would have fit so neatly into Fox's views. That said, there is much to be pondered in this book that is well worth your time. It keeps it's five stars from me.
Matthew Fox is well-known for his many publications on creative spirituality and less for his biographies so the present work will come as a welcomed surprise to his readers and newcomers who are uninitiated to the Fox-enthusiasm and religious insights. He takes the very well-known 13th c. saint and centerpiece of the German mystical movement and places her in the 21st century struggles of women and men in search for a role model in creative religiosity and spirituality - a century of pedophilia, misogynism, and anti-women religious eminating from the Roman Curia and the halls of the Vatican affecting the lives of Catholic parishes and dioceses globally with the secrecy and misplaced favoritism of the Catholic Church leaders. If catholics needed a model of our time, Matthew Fox surely makes St. Hildegard a very likely candidate. Radical and not-so-but-unhappy radical Catholics will welcome Fox's insights.
