I love this book! The pictures are inspiring and the recipes detailed. I also have "Building with Cob" and passed the earlier version of "Clay & Lime Renders", "Using Natural Finishes" to my friend who is building a straw bale addition to his house. I took a star off because I'm unable to access ("403 Forbidden") the website for Resources and Suppliers. I'd like to make paints for our new/old home that we're purchasing and, though I could probably figure out some places from friends and on my own, I would love to have some guidance on good places the authors recommend for sourcing.
This is a very readable and easily understood text - most of the information reflects closely our practices developed from old learnings and shared knowledge of old folk in traditional environments = A WORTHWHILE TEXT for both beginner and senior practirioners

Highly recommend. My only negative is that I preordered the kindle book for 3.99. I see it is only .99 cents today. ???
Rating 3.5 stars!The Woman I Was Before by Kerry Fisher - the cover of the book got me going and I knew I needed to read it. I hadn't heard of author Kerry Fisher, but I saw she had written a few books prior. I requested the opportunity to review the book from Bookouture through NetGalley and was approved!The Woman I Was Before gives readers an up close and personal front row seat so they can watch the drama begin to flow on Parkview Road. The neighborhood consists of bright, beautiful new homes with pretty people on the outside.....but what's happening on the inside? Because of the perfect picture lifestyle that people often post on their social pages, showing off to people that they are very happy and that they’re living a drama free life…..the ability to make everything so beautiful on the outside on Facebook and Instagram..... but what's real?The story is told from the perspectives of three neighbor women, Kate, Gisele, and Sally. Gisela's constant posts of family and new purchases make it seem that she's living quite the glamorous life. Sally and Chris seem to have the ultimate go-getter type of stress-free and no kids type of marriage. Kate and her daughter Daisy, are social media shy and they seem to be running from something.  Throughout The Woman I Was Before, I felt that each of these women's characters were well written and it was easy to connect with them as they were so relatable. I actually felt pretty bad for them watching their lives fall apart as their secrets were revealed. I enjoyed the story and the book overall and felt that the topics were current and real. They actually caused me to think about my own social media posts and status, and how my live shows up in social media. I really liked the writing, and I want to go back and read Ms. Fisher's other books as well.I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from Bookouture through NetGalley in exchange for my review. I would like to thank Bookouture for allowing me the opportunity to participate, read and review this book. I almost didn’t love this book. Kate’s story and mystery kept me intrigued and reading, but it was the twists with Sally and Gisela that hooked me.In the beginning, I kept turning the page to find out what Kate was hiding. I had an idea, but I wasn’t certain. My assumption in how the reveal would occur was accurate, but despite its predictability, it was still satisfying.Sally and Gisela were warmer characters, by design, and I could imagine meeting them for coffee or wine. They were relatable and real, despite their high society status and the false pretenses for perfection they touted online.By the end of The Woman I was Before, I loved all three leading characters. Kate’s story broke my heart, and I felt her raw emotions as she shared the story with her new friends.The Woman I was Before was charming, heartbreaking and satisfying.

Sally and Gisela have flawless lives according to their FB profiles, but in reality their lives are less than perfect. In fact, their lives are falling apart more and more everyday. Will Kate be able to keep her secrets safe now that she became one of the FB addicts? Will Sally and Gisela be able to keep up the charade of having perfect and happy lives? Those are the answers that the reader will want answers to while reading this novel.I really enjoyed “The Woman I Was Beforeâ€. The writing style and plot kept me interested and quite emotional. It was heart breaking at times, and I felt the desolation and loss of all the women in this story. The characters well developed and I’ve connected with all of them on a personal level. This was my first book by this author, but it will definitely not be the last.Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author, Kerry Fisher, for giving me an opportunity to read an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.
4 starsThe Woman I Was BeforeBy Kerry FisherHoly buckets, this is a good book. I was drawn in from the very first page and barely put it down until I was finished. I identified with the main characters very strongly. I went through many emotions reading this book including understanding, bafflement, joy and sadness.This is the first book I have read by Fisher and it most certainly will not be the last! The only reason I am not giving this book 5 stars is the ending was entirely too predictable given how interesting the rest of the book is as I was just wanting more for the conclusion.I do still highly recommend this book.I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. Robinson was a great American aviator - internationally acclaimed in his lifetime - but as a black Mississippian, he's been largely forgotten. If not for author Thomas Simmons' excellent research - much of it derived through personal interviews - Robinson's achievements might continue to go unnoticed.Yet much of what this man did looms all the brighter when we consider the racial barriers he surmounted. When an aviation school denied him admission, Robinson took a janitorial job there and audited classes broom-in-hand. He built his own plane, started his own flying school - even helped create a black airport when white ones refused to refuel his plane.Robinson's pushed for an aviation program at Tuskegee Institute to train other black pilots, giving rise to the famous Tuskegee airmen who performed so bravely as the Red Tail squadron in World War Two. Not waiting for the US to enter that war, Robinson began fighting fascism in 1935 when Mussolini attacked Ethiopia. The Brown Condor led the Ethiopian air force, being twice wounded and also gassed. Great book. Opened my eyes to Mussolini's ruthless invasion of Ethiopia, and the difficulties of breaking into aviation for African American pilots. This is the story of a brave, dedicated and devoted man who lived for Ethiopians, and for the future of African American Aviation, in spite of terrible odds and opposition. John C. Robinson was and is a real American hero and inspiration.
This book arrived in the morning and I didn't put it down until I was done in the evening. Such an extraordinary story about a truly extraordinary man that is beautifully told through the writing of Thomas Simmons. It is one of those books that will stay with me for a very long time. And I will encourage others to learn about the life and legacy of John Charles Robinson.
Enjoyed the man and his perseverance and Gulfport history as well as Ethiopian struggle. Warm, interesting, and enlightening. Recommend this well-written book!

This is very great book!! I mostly recommend it to 10 year olds. ( you will find out why when you read the book.) It explains everything happening outside AND inside your body. Warning: part of this book is where you write down things you learned and stuff like that. So if you buy this book on your kindle, you can` t do the writing part, unless you want to write all over your kindle! :) I would totally recommend this book to any girl that is going through pueberty. Reading this book helped me to feel normal and be completely ready for everything that would happen in the tween years!! This book was an amazing book so I hope you get it!

I was looking for a Biblical based book that helped explain how a girl's body changes before and during puberty. My daughter is 10 and we've been reading it together at night before bed. She actually asks for this book opposed to a wide array of books we read. She is very curious about what's happening to her and this author brings the information to her in a way she can relate to and in a style that speaks to young girls. I've always loved "The Grinch" growing up, so I had to get this for my kiddos this Christmas. I haven't given it to them yet, and I won't be til the night before christmas as their "night before christmas box", but I flipped through the pages already. The book has that nice crisp new book feel where it's almost hard to turn the pages because of how tight the binding is, but I love that. It arrived clean and no scratches or anything on the cover which is always nice!
I ordered this book to read give to my child on Christmas Eve. The actual size of the book is a little larger than other Dr. Seuss books I have but I like the larger size. It is actually the same size as "The Lorax" which I also bought on Amazon but larger than the other 10 or so Dr. Seuss books that my kids have. We really enjoyed reading this book together on Christmas Eve. This is fun story with a good message and great illustrations. My kids were engaged and enjoyed this book. It would also be good for young readers to read themselves. I would definitely recommend this book. It would also make a great gift for a child.
The book is bigger than I thought it would be and the cover is a red shiny metallic color.I bought this as a Christmas gift for my boss. He told us he was a grinch, and we also decorated our office as whoville. Because everything was Grinch themed, I figured his gift should be too. It was also a gift he could share with his children.
I purchased this because we had to leave our other copy behind in Ireland when we moved here this year. I couldn't let a Christmas go by that we didn't read this book, and it has always been one of our favourites. They only thing I wish they would do (and have always wished) is make the pages full colour...it's mostly black and white, and I think it would gain a lot in appearance with some colour...my daughter offered to colour in the Grinch throughout the pages this year, and I think I'm going to let her. It's a good quality copy of the book, with some metallic red and green on the cover, which adds some zing to it...I recommend to anyone who knows the book or has never heard it...it's a classic!

I loved this story growing up. Dr. Seuss is STILL my favorite author and I enjoy reading the books to my 3 year old son. This classic story tells of a grouchy "Grinch" who hates Christmas and what he perceives it to be all about. In the end, he has a change of heart. The rhymes are catchy, the art is beautifully done and the message it sends to readers young and old will be remembered!I ordered this with 2 day shipping and it arrived the very next afternoon, too so kudos to the seller!
Beautiful, large hard back book. It's a lot longer than I remember it being as a child. My two year old really doesn't have the patience for it yet, it may have to wait till next Christmas before she's willing to sit and listen to it.

We have all three Bedtime Math books, and my kids love all of them. I find this one by far the most fun to read since each spread actually has interesting information that answers a question or debunks a myth. The nonfiction mini-essays are informative and entertaining. My main complaint with the first two books was the little essays really said nothing (like two paragraphs about how ketchup is red and would make a mess if you squirted it on someone or whatever). Much improvement on that front!My only criticism of this book is that there seems to be too great a spread between the first two levels of math problems and the second two. I have a four-year-old and a 7-year-old second grader, and my four-year-old can answer the "wee ones" and "little kids" questions, which are too easy for my second grader, but the "big kids" questions seem to be at an upper elementary level (3rd-5th grade maybe) and often involve multiplication, division, or other skills my 2nd grader hasn't learned yet, so there seems to be a 1st-2nd grade gap in the math problems.
I honestly didn't know what to expect with this book. I bought it because my 9 year old needs help with math. I read this to my children every night and we go over the problems from Pee-wee to big kid problems. It allows me to assess where 9 year old is struggling. It breaks my heart when my 7 year old can answer questions that my 9 year old can't but I take the time to walk her through problems and create visuals for her to refer to. If I forget a night of reading, my children will remind me as they look forward to hearing the silly stories that come before the problems.
My whole family loves this book! What a fun book. We've been reading two stories each night at the dinner table. My kids are 6, 4, and 2. It's beyond my 2 year old, but my 6 and 4 year olds can do all of the questions for "Wee Ones" and sometimes the questions for "Little Kids". My husband and I like to quiz each other on the more advanced questions. Great book. I plan to buy the other ones once we finish this one.
I bought this to work through with my 10 year old daughter at night so that I could double check her math reasoning skills. It's perfect, and she loves it! We tackle a few pages each night, and she is always asking for a few more -- this from a child that says she hates math. There are engaging paragraphs that lead up to 4 levels of math problems. The one for Wee Ones is good for a 3 or 4 year old. She loves flying through those. The one for "Little Kids" is good for a 6 year old. Flies through that, but likes doing it. Then comes the "Big Kids" which takes her some time, and the "Bonus" which even I have some trouble with. She closes her eyes and does them in her head. But most importantly, it allows me to understand how she is processing the math, and what she needs help with.
The bedtime math serious is awesome. I taught my kids to read using hooked on phonics, but for math I haven't found anything I like yet. All the math books are either really basic like draw the number 7 or they are repetitive math problems. This book and the other bedtime math books have a great approach to getting kids comfortable with math. The book has a quick paragraph that explains something about the world then has 4 math questions in increasing difficulty associated with the story. You should know that the way the math questions are written can be challenging for my 6 year old to understand sometimes, but that is what I like. It really makes her concentrate and understand what is being asked. I am confident that when she starts doing word math problems, which we all hated in school, that she will feel much more confident in her approach to them. My kids get frustrated at times, but in the end when we work through the problem they have a great time and they are asking me to do more problems every night. I can't recommend this book enough.
I love the stories, they're quite interesting. I think the different levels would be great if you're reading the book with two kids. I just read them with my 4 year old, and she can usually get the wee ones (usually counting our comparing numbers) and the little kids (usually adding/subtracting smaller numbers. I agree with another review that there's then a big jump in difficulty. The big kids and bonus questions involve bigger numbers (>20), and often algebra. I wish there were more very simple multiplying/dividing questions.
I am a third grade teacher and I can't say enough good things about this book. As an educator, I understand how important it is for children to be read to or read every night, the fact that this integrates real life math problems is amazing. I read one story to my class everyday after lunch and the kids love the interesting trivia they learn!
Love as always! We were gifted one of thw other books a couple years ago. But it was too difficult for the kids then. But now that my kids are 6 and 8 they LOVE IT! There are 3 levels (which includes both my kids!!) One is 1st/2nd grade next is 3rd/4th grade then I would guess 4th/5th I should add that they Ask for this book EVERY NIGHT!! They want to do math before bed!! We read about 3 pages a night then read our regular book.

Lindsay's life-narrative is so cataclysmically different from my own, and a type of story so rarely told, that I am still unsure how to articulate my feelings about it. It was crushing, and beautiful, and intense. Phenomenally written and deeply captured in its humanity, the number of times I would need to stop and retread a line to make sure I understood that, yes, what she just said is as crazy as it sounds, was too many to count.Unbelievable. Worth every minute.
This is the freshest prose I've read in a long time. Lindsay takes a wise angle on her upbringing with sardonic humor reminiscent of Royal Tennenbaums meets Running with Scissors. She also takes a critical view on being a first-generation Chinese Canadian, making a cultural critique that is most enjoyable to swallow due to the hilarity of her prose.
I made myself late for several appointments because I couldn't stop listening. It's a memoir about a Chinese family that has really extreme mental issues -- but they don't believe in western medicine and think their craziness is because of ghosts. This book is also HILARIOUS. I lost count of how many times I laughed out loud, thanks both to the writer Lindsay Wong, and the narrator Eunice Wong, who does an amazing job. Especially loved the voice of the father and the (crazy crazy crazy) grandmother. Eunice Wong really does the book justice by making you crack up one minute and then the next you're either horrified or heartbroken at this family. I don't know how there could be a sequel, but I would really like there to be one! (I did a little internet sleuthing, and The Woo Woo was nominated for the Hilary Weston prize, which is Canada's biggest non-fiction award. It's a seriously good book. And this is a seriously good performance of it.)
This was an interesting glimpse into a life wholly unlike my own, all the more interesting since I grew up in the same city as the author. But I don’t much care for her writing style. Sometimes budding pears can just be budding pears, they don’t need to be budding gloomily.
