This little treasure will forever be a great tool in my tool belt as a counselor. I have counseled a couple young men through the problem with purity and lust. Alcorn hits the heart and uses stories and analogies that will linger in your head and shake your heart. Both young men that I have given this to have loved it. One of my counselee's loved it so much he would tell me that he would approach the book with the thought, "What do you have to teach me today Randy?" This book ministered to me as a teenager in high school that struggled with lust and porn. It was a life changing and life shaping book then and it has stood the test of time now. A must have for anyone who is serious about putting lust, porn, and immorality to death. It's short and could even be finished in one sitting.
Randy Alcorn has written a few great booklets that are around 100 pages long. The Purity Principle is one of them. The Purity Principle is quite simple: "Purity is always smart, impurity is always stupid". If we know what is best for us then we will passionately pursue purity. The first part of this book attempts to prove the purity principle. The second part of the book gets practical and puts into place wise strategies for pursuing purity.What I Liked:This book is well written, it is short, it is to the point, it is deeply biblical, and greatly convicting. Even if you think you are passionately pursuing purity this book will challenge you to go a step further. Alcorn speaks boldly and wisely throughout. The strategies in this book are not legalistic tips or merely unhelpful theories, they are real and they are practical. But there is only one caveat...What I Disliked:I wish Alcorn would have inserted a chapter about the resurrection power of Jesus in our lives. Because of what Christ has done we have the power within us to conquer this battle. I know that Alcorn would agree with that, I just wish he would have laid a foundation towards the beginning. He starts towards that when he says, "when my thirst for joy is satisfied by Christ, sin becomes unattractive". But, I wish he would have taken it a step further and dedicated a chapter to encouraging those that feel ridiculously defeated by this particular sin. Again, he says these things in a few places (see page 60)--I just think the reader would be better served having a deliberate chapter. Nonetheless...Should You Buy It?Absolutely. If you have a heartbeat, you are a guy, you are a girl, you know a guy, you know a girl, then you need to buy this book and read it. There is a helpful chapter for singles. There is a helpful chapter for parents.
Really solid foundational views on purity that give you concepts to chew on; also a fast read. Of course, some examples Alcorn gives regarding how to maintain purity may seem very extreme, so definitely read this with an open mind and don't get too offended/upset at the get go. What I love about how Alcorn writes is that he's not afraid to be radical and straightforward about what he thinks and how he applies scripture...yet he recognizes that his own personal application is not how everyone will apply it and urges you to meditate on it yourself. You can tell that his heart is for the Lord and that he wants his readers simply to know what God's word says and to obey in how He leads you. Read it for the principles he presents and take some prayerful time to consider what it looks like in your own life. Good luck!
This is a very powerful book. I bought it to review with my 13 year old son. After reading it, I think it's a little too mature for my son as he's been homeschooled and not exposed to much of the stuff that I had exposure to as a boy of that age. I will definitely read through this book with him as he gets a little older. This book was very convicting for me personally and I praise God for Randy Alcorn's ability to put into words the principles of purity from God's word.

A great little read! Perhaps not the BEST book I've ever read on the subject (that'd probably be reserved for "Finally Free" and "Irresistible to God") but still a good one!
I was totally satisfied with this purchase. This little volume is packed with good sound Biblical principles with a good measure of common senseand practical applications thrown in for free. The scripture references are MANY and right on for anyone serious about sexual integrity and renewing the mind, as we are encouraged to do in Romans 12:2 and Ephesians 4:23. The challenge is strong to be bold and alter one's behavior by that same process, in the power of the Holy Spirit. May God Bless you as you read this.

This book is simply the worst foreign language book I ever bought. There are minimal to no Ukrainian pronunciation guides with this book. It is all about how poorly structured the book is and the total lack of pronunciation guides.

From then he reminisces about his involvement in the Revolutionary War, first of all being quite against it, hoping for a peaceful settlement since he had fought hard for the British in the previous war. However he was soon disappointed in the King and appointed leader of revolution armies. The book continues on to tell about battles he participated in, his war career in general and why he was respected and elected president even though he was reluctant to take on the role. The book quickly ends with his retirement and death. Honestly, I found the war details tedious and boring, but this is a topic I've read much about and am not especially interested in reading about Washington much anymore. I was disappointed to see that Washington was not portrayed or even shown to be a slave owner. There were several views of his home at Mt. Vernon and the abscence of his slaves on the property was conspicuously noticable. Interesting book for what it attempts to do.

It's rare to laugh out loud more than a few times with any book -- this one had me in stitches many many times.Parents and pet owners especially will like this book.Reading it, you get to experience your own Self ... And to laugh at that Self... Also have the opportunity to be deeply touched by love and relationship. Such a fun time!!
After listening to Mr. McLean's stories on CBC radio, I was interested in how well his stories convert over to print and found them to be just as good as his radio show. They might be too tame for some, but they are humorous looks at real life that I often find myself thinking I might do something similar to some of the characters.
I think of Stuart McLean as the Canadian Garrison Keillor, and his show "The Vinyl Cafe," as their answer to "A Prairie Home Companion." This series is excellent for anyone with a mental age over six years.
Stuart is going to be SO missed.
If you are a Stuart and Vinyl Cafe fan, you'll love this, although it is somewhat jarring to "hear" Stuart in prose if you're an addict if his phenomenal oral storytelling skills. One if the stories had much more details than the oral version I'd heard, but this just made his tight oral skills even more impressive. I think people unfamiliar with the radio show would still enjoy it.
Stuart McLean is a good, funny light read. He makes it all seem so believable with a timing sense, that even though you can see the joke coming it builds so well that when he delivers his joke it is hilarious. I read it to my 11 year old granddaughter.
Laugh out loud funny and very entertaining

Byriah Loper has folded origami for five years. His interest in origami art began with the discovery of a paper airplane calendar, which inspired him to model more complicated objects out of paper. I pre-ordered this book in February 2016 and was thrilled when it was finally released and arrived in my doorstep. Immediately after I opened it up I took a look through all the diagrams and decided that it was worth the wait! The diagrams are gorgeous and detailed and in color, which is helpful since the units can be quite complex, and it really highlights how the unit should look at each step.I've been working my way through from the front of the book and starting to tackle the wire frames in the second half of the book. The weaving instructions are detailed and explain and show you how the symmetry of the models work, so you get to fully understand how they fit together, versus blindly following instructions. (This is something I have found to be lacking in the construction of the first wire frame I ever folded, Tom Hull's Five Intersecting Tetrahedra, so I was pleased to find such instruction in this book.)If you purchase this (an action I heartily recommend) you should start clearing some room to display your models! They will take some time, but the end results are worth it.
Some very difficult models! I have experience with modular origami models. These ones were a new challenge for me in that for the second half of the book it requires very specific rectangular cuts of paper. The majority of the difficulty is not is folding the units but in the weaving of them to construct the model. Expect to have to look at the reference images intensely to figure out exactly where to weave what part. I do wish it came with more reference images, showing exact angles and weaving directions but the ones present are the minimum required to show you exactly what to do. This is an excellent book showing how to model some of the most fascinating interlocked models in all of origami. There are tons of models like this in this book which makes it very worth getting.
Sixth graders pronounced it "epic." It took two of them about five hours to do one project, but if you are serious and experienced, it's apparently pretty amazing.

Not your typical origami but a creative alternative to "cranes and flowers"
This book spends some time explaining how to perform the basic Origami folds. Which is great for newbies, but may feel tedious to more experienced artists. But soon after that, Loper dives headlong into exceedingly more challenging geometric shapes.In all honesty, I've been left scratching my head on how to finish more than one project in this book. I'm not sure if it's due to the author's instructions... or my lack of comprehension.
Very complicated. Lots of maths. I'm probably too impatient, but my thought is that you need to be quite experienced with origami to have good results from this.
