Our five year old boy used this all day on Christmas to inspire his tricks on his new gym mat. It is sturdy, with thick pages that will hold up to hard use. It's spiral binding lets him prop it up like a tent so he can look at the pictures while attempting the tricks. It has many, many photos, both of girls and boys. A lot of gymnastics books are aimed at girls; this one is for both genders.
This book is a great learning tool for beginners. The book has easy to follow directions with color pictures to take you step by step through the learning process. I like the fact that it just didn't have skills, but also exercised to get them ready and help them condition through practice. I would recommend this to anyone that has a beginner or just needs a refresher!
My daughter was so excited to receive this book! She is training level 4 and finds this book very helpful! She really loves the different stretches the book provides and in gymnastics, shapes are so important. This gives picture illustrations that my daughter can really understand. I would recommend this to any gymnast!
Our girls were so excited to receive this book! They love dance and gymnastics. The pictures are great to show the moves. They loved seeing the kids demonstrating them. They said they are excited to try them! We got the book at the perfect time since we have lots of time this summer to try new things! I bought this as a gift for my six year old granddaughter. This book seems geared to the child learning at home who is not enrolled in a gymnastic class. It is very basic and isn't going to be much help to my granddaughter. I think it is overpriced for what you get-a 9 X 9 spiral bound book with very small pictures.
It's a very lovely book and I love how it stands up in its own so we can look at it while trying to do the exercises. My daughter is 5 and just started tumble classes. She was excited to see many of the poses they teach in her class and we enjoyed spending time together following along with the book. This would be a great book for parents who would like to learn the names of the poses so they can help kids practice at home and understand how to direct them.
My two daughters absolutely love this book! The illustrations are fun and so helpful for teaching beginner gymnasts the safe and proper way to learn new things. My girls are 8 and 10 so this is more beginner level but they absolutely love using it to play gymnastics coach with each other. Great book!!

Skim isn't completely was I expected but it kinda was.The book follows an Asian teen as she comes to terms with her understanding of love and sexuality. Nothing is explicit but all feelings expressed are quiet yet raw which I liked a lot. The lead is a witch but the practice is not the plot's main focus. So if that's the kind of representation you're seeking, I doubt you'll be satisfied. Especially since the lead doesn't take it too seriously (she's 16, give her a break lol). I digress. The book did a great job capturing the process of heartbreak when you barely understand. It also did a great job showing various friendships between girls and the process of growing apart (and closer) at a young age. Also did a good job highlighting the various ways people deal with grief. On the other hand, it did a horrible job pointing out explicitly that (spoiler alert) adults shouldn't go after children romantically. Considering the climate this book was made it, I'm not particularly happy about that so I took off a star. I also took off another star because I wish the story was longer. Granted the book has a complete story, I liked the lead enough to crave more of her narrative. Especially in relation to her budding relationship with someone unexpected.Not my favorite but recommend to queer Asian teen femmes seeking representation. There's one scene I'm sure many youth of color growing up in white spaces can relate to. I digress. TW for suicide and predatory adults (read: inappropriate behavior with children).
I just started reading graphic novels and Mariko and Jillian Tamaki have quickly become my favorites! I first read "This One Summer" and now "Skim". LOVE, LOVE the illustration style in both books and the story lines (both coming of age stories) are so real and thoughtfully written. I know I will return to these 2 books over and over again.
This graphic novel was praised almost universally in reviews, and but has still remained somewhat under the radar of the public.Both the story and the drawing style are unusual and lovely. It's a story is set in the emotional world of a young schoolgirl. Like many bildungsromans, it is full of yearning and searching, but instead of being angsty or funny, it is poetic and kaleidoscopic, a snowglobe-like window into her changing world. I haven't seen anything else quite like it, and I've read a lot of graphic novels and comics.Fans of Persepolis, Fun Home, or Maus would particularly appreciate it.
Wonderful graphic novel. Beautiful imagery, pace, and characters. It's like what a good high school movie wants to be but never is. Ideal to read in late summer/autumn if you read by the season like I do.

This is the second book I've read by the Tamakis, and I think they write fantastic graphic novels about young adulthood focused specifically on teenage girls. The art is whimsical, haunting, and beautiful, and the writing matches the art.
Lovely Book, and a great read. The artwork is stunning. I had to buy this book for a class along with some others, and this is the only one I kept.

Fine piano arrangements of the major themes, but I have a huge problem with books like these. Why must the publishers put so few measures per page? This illogical spacing means that a piece that shouldn't be more than a page long takes up three or four pages. Page turns are difficult for this hot-glue bound book, which is stiff and difficult to flatten in the first place (I have to use a plumb bob weight to hold the pages down). It's as if this book was designed assuming that most people who bought it would never actually use it to make music. And perhaps that's correct. Perhaps most people who buy this buy it for the souvenir/collectible value. I don't know. I actually want to use it.

This little treasure will forever be a great tool in my tool belt as a counselor. I have counseled a couple young men through the problem with purity and lust. Alcorn hits the heart and uses stories and analogies that will linger in your head and shake your heart. Both young men that I have given this to have loved it. One of my counselee's loved it so much he would tell me that he would approach the book with the thought, "What do you have to teach me today Randy?" This book ministered to me as a teenager in high school that struggled with lust and porn. It was a life changing and life shaping book then and it has stood the test of time now. A must have for anyone who is serious about putting lust, porn, and immorality to death. It's short and could even be finished in one sitting.
Randy Alcorn has written a few great booklets that are around 100 pages long. The Purity Principle is one of them. The Purity Principle is quite simple: "Purity is always smart, impurity is always stupid". If we know what is best for us then we will passionately pursue purity. The first part of this book attempts to prove the purity principle. The second part of the book gets practical and puts into place wise strategies for pursuing purity.What I Liked:This book is well written, it is short, it is to the point, it is deeply biblical, and greatly convicting. Even if you think you are passionately pursuing purity this book will challenge you to go a step further. Alcorn speaks boldly and wisely throughout. The strategies in this book are not legalistic tips or merely unhelpful theories, they are real and they are practical. But there is only one caveat...What I Disliked:I wish Alcorn would have inserted a chapter about the resurrection power of Jesus in our lives. Because of what Christ has done we have the power within us to conquer this battle. I know that Alcorn would agree with that, I just wish he would have laid a foundation towards the beginning. He starts towards that when he says, "when my thirst for joy is satisfied by Christ, sin becomes unattractive". But, I wish he would have taken it a step further and dedicated a chapter to encouraging those that feel ridiculously defeated by this particular sin. Again, he says these things in a few places (see page 60)--I just think the reader would be better served having a deliberate chapter. Nonetheless...Should You Buy It?Absolutely. If you have a heartbeat, you are a guy, you are a girl, you know a guy, you know a girl, then you need to buy this book and read it. There is a helpful chapter for singles. There is a helpful chapter for parents.
Really solid foundational views on purity that give you concepts to chew on; also a fast read. Of course, some examples Alcorn gives regarding how to maintain purity may seem very extreme, so definitely read this with an open mind and don't get too offended/upset at the get go. What I love about how Alcorn writes is that he's not afraid to be radical and straightforward about what he thinks and how he applies scripture...yet he recognizes that his own personal application is not how everyone will apply it and urges you to meditate on it yourself. You can tell that his heart is for the Lord and that he wants his readers simply to know what God's word says and to obey in how He leads you. Read it for the principles he presents and take some prayerful time to consider what it looks like in your own life. Good luck!
This is a very powerful book. I bought it to review with my 13 year old son. After reading it, I think it's a little too mature for my son as he's been homeschooled and not exposed to much of the stuff that I had exposure to as a boy of that age. I will definitely read through this book with him as he gets a little older. This book was very convicting for me personally and I praise God for Randy Alcorn's ability to put into words the principles of purity from God's word.

A great little read! Perhaps not the BEST book I've ever read on the subject (that'd probably be reserved for "Finally Free" and "Irresistible to God") but still a good one!

Pay particular attention to the subtitle of this book as it accuarately describes what this book is about. Concentrating only on Washington's life as a soldier and how he came to be president the book is told in his own voice as he tells the story of when they came to tell him he had been elected president. From then he reminisces about his involvement in the Revolutionary War, first of all being quite against it, hoping for a peaceful settlement since he had fought hard for the British in the previous war. However he was soon disappointed in the King and appointed leader of revolution armies. The book continues on to tell about battles he participated in, his war career in general and why he was respected and elected president even though he was reluctant to take on the role. The book quickly ends with his retirement and death. Honestly, I found the war details tedious and boring, but this is a topic I've read much about and am not especially interested in reading about Washington much anymore. I was disappointed to see that Washington was not portrayed or even shown to be a slave owner. There were several views of his home at Mt. Vernon and the abscence of his slaves on the property was conspicuously noticable. Interesting book for what it attempts to do.
