My daughter loves this book and all of its colorful pictures!

Great book. My son loves it. Nice pictures, informative text. I have one complaint, though. The pages detach very easily from the binding. My son is not rough on books at all, but this is the second copy of this book he's owned and 90% of the pages have come loose from the binding. I feel like I am constantly having to tape them back in, only to have more pages fall out. In fact, I'm getting ready to order a third copy because of this (he's a bit of an ocean fanatic, so he likes having this book in is collection). I'd say it was just a fluke, but not only has it happened to the two books with this title he's owned (and I expect it to happen with the third, once he gets it), but it's also happened to both his first AND second copies of The First Big Book of Why (his second copy isn't bad enough to need replacing...yet). So, buyer beware, it's a great book context-wise, but it's very, very poorly constructed.UPDATE: My son has now had his THIRD copy of this book for four months. Ten pages have already detached from the binding and have been taped back in. I suspect more pages will be falling out soon. Great book, but I think the company needs to make sure the binding is more secure for future publishings. I'm knocking a star off my review based on construction alone.

First of all the book is wonderful. THE BINDING IS TERRIBLE! The book is seriously in separate pages throughout my classroom. I am a teacher but I have a very small class (under 10 students) and that the book would seriously fall apart in my hands after 2 months is ridiculous! The kids love the book but over half of the book is taped together. When a teacher spends her own money on things for the classroom this is not the quality we expect.

Just finished reading this book with my 4-year old kid. We both loved it! A new animal is featured every page or two, and it's a greatest hits collection: dolphins, sharks, whales, otters, penguins, sea turtles. There were also pages featuring coral, sponges, plankton, and jellyfish.What REALLY took the book to the next level was the interconnectedness - when the book mentioned that sea turtles eat jellyfish, I could flip over to the jellyfish page. Also, when the spotted dolphins were introduced, it gave a nod back to the orcas (a type of dolphin), and then on the next page showed several more types of dolphins. Of course the clown fish + anemone symbiosis featured on the cover was nice, as was the sea ray + remora.Note: There is a world map at the back of the book - it might be nice to jump there at the beginning of each chapter to show where in the world that particular ocean is.Also: We have only done one read through so far, but have had no issues with the binding.

This book is WONDERFUL. My 2 year old daughter never tires of reading it & looking at the beautiful pictures. She has learned the names of so many species & the other day, we were watching Finding Nemo & she got excited when she could identify the Anglerfish! This was a great buy & I have even learned some interesting facts, too. Looking forward to purchasing more in this series.

My middle has recently become obsessed with fish. This book was a Christmas gift and oh my did we hit the nail on the head! We read this book all day! The pictures are beautiful and while he does love hearing about fish he doesn’t care for all the facts yet. I am sure we will eventually need to rebuy this book as we did with the dinosaur book because they get so loved pages get ripped many times then ripped out.

I co-own a daycare facility with children 6 weeks to 12 years of aage. The kids love this book, I have read it dozens of times already and learned a few things along the way. I am a National Geographic geek from way back but had to sensor my Nat Geo books and magazines to show 2-12 year olds so these allow me to share the pics without the more adult content. Great pics, easy to explain to younger kids, we have even used it for our toddler class (under 2). The kids at work actually asked me to get the rest of the series and we take them out every morning to start the day.

My 2 yr old daughter loves these books. The photos are fun for her to look at and learn the animal names from. As she gets older, there’s enough simple information that she can learn about the animals too. Big books and heavy but my daughter picks hers up, sits on the couch and happily flips though them

We've had this book a few years now, and as my daughter becomes a more fluent reader in 2nd grade, I often catch her sitting down, reading this book. The text is descriptive and just right for a beginning reader. For non-readers, it is still enjoyable and informational. We also love the beautiful photographs.
